10 Tips to Prevent Heat Stroke

  1. Avoid direct sun exposure without protection between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. during the summer.
  2. Drink at least 2–2.5 liters (about 12–14 glasses) of water daily.
  3. Maintain a balanced salt intake.
  4. Do not use diuretics unnecessarily.
  5. Stay physically active.
  6. Wear a hat and sunglasses.
  7. Choose loose, light-colored, cotton clothing.
  8. Eat light meals rich in fruits and vegetables.
  9. If exercising, do it before 9:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. Drink 2–4 glasses of water for every hour of exercise.
  10. If you go out in the sun during peak hours, use sunscreen with at least SPF 15.
 5 Things to Do in Case of Heat Stroke
  1. Move the affected person away from the hot environment.
  2. Remove their clothing and wrap them in wet towels.
  3. If conscious, give plenty of water and mineral water to drink.
  4. If unconscious, call emergency services (112) immediately.
  5. If the person is unconscious, lay them on their side and monitor their breathing. Stay with them until medical help arrives.
5 Things You Should Never Do in Case of Heat Stroke
  1. Do not immerse the person in ice-cold water, which may cause cold shock.
  2. Do not give fluids by mouth to someone who is unconscious.
  3. Do not force the person to stand up or walk.
  4. Do not give caffeinated or alcoholic beverages.

Do not attempt to treat the person while still exposed to the sun.
